Pull up the anchor

Sitting in a little boat on a hot and lazy Sunday morning we drifted a bit, fished a bit and let the tranquility just sink in. It was the most beautiful day in Mashonaland, a bright blue sky, water like glass. I dropped the anchor near a reed bed and was watching birds when suddenly there was a long thin flash of green on a dead tree touching distance away. It was a snake and with visions of it dropping into the boat I pulled up the anchor so fast I nearly knocked myself out. I tugged on the oars and rowed us out of there while my friend just kept on casting and reeling in.  Zimbabwe and her surprises never fail to get the adrenalin pumping. ©Cathy Buckle 2023.  https://cathybuckle.co.zw/
